Voter Rights and the Supreme Court

So you go to your polling place just like you do every election and greet the people working there who you've known for years.  You also bring a social security letter, a telephone bill and a state driver's license (expired, because you don't drive anymore).  It's the same routine as in previous elections.

But you aren't permitted to vote.  You don't have proper identification.  You have to fill out a provisional ballot.

Welcome to democracy in America.  While our attention has been focused on the New Hampshire primary the Supreme Court is hearing oral arguments that could drastically harm our voting rights.

Please see the excellent links at the Brennan Center for more info on the arguments and briefs involved.  Sen. Obama has signed the Congressional Black Caucus amicus brief.

Can we get a rec for voter rights?

Latest on the AFSCME Flier
